Ghanaians Are A Free People - Not The Daft-Serfs Of Their Ruling-Elites

When there is widespread suffering in an African democracy saddled with corrupt and insensitive ruling-élites, there is no question that that democracy can suddenly fall, to a Jerry Rawlings-type figure. Easily. As we speak, all the signs are there, in our homeland Ghana, for those with clear eyes to see for themselves, ooooo. Yooooooo...

The sad thing for those of us who support him 100 percent - but loathe his ruling New Patriotic Party  (NPP), which has now evolved into a criminal organisation in all but name  -  is that President Akufo-Addo has all the qualities needed to enable him leave a great legacy.  However, looking at the mess the country is now in, he risks  ending up suffering the same fate suffered by Dr. K. A. Busia, if he does not make drastic changes to his leadership-style now. He needs to be more hands on, and less trusting,  ooooo. Yooooooo...

Above all, the President must wake up to the dangers of having an Attorney General, who so obviously believes that their party's interests are supreme,  and above that of  the Ghanaian nation-state -  and thus puts party interests ahead of the national interest. That is a disaster in a nation dominated by big-thieves-in-high-places.

In that sense, most discerning and independent-minded Ghanaians,  are aware of the huge difference, between the professional-mindset of the current occupier of the position of Attorney General,  and that of the distinguished lady he replaced,  Ms. Gloria Akuffo. Yoooooooo...

That unfortunate situation is a clear and present danger to Akufo-Addo's presidency - which is why he would be wise to relieve Godfrey Dame of his position as Ghana's Attorney General, quickly. The skirt-and-blouse presidential and parliamentary elections of December 2020, was telling, in demonstrating, in  palpable-fashion, the national mood.  Dumsor's return,  angers a thoroughly fed people, even more, ooooo. Yooooooo...

Political power is transient. It is extraordinary that President Akufo-Addo's relations, on whom he relies, the most, such as the Gabby Asare Otchere-Darkos and Nana Asante Bediatuos, seem oblivious of the fact that the NPP is destined to return to the political wilderness after the 2024 elections. Ghanaians are a free people, not the daft-serfs of their ruling-élites, ooooo. The quicker the Gabby Asare Otchere-Darkos and Nana Asante Bediatuos  understood that, the better it will be for their regime. Yoooooooo...

A Quick Note To Honourable Abaas Fusheini Sbaabe - On Effective Presidencies

Honourable,

Greetings. Massa, the mistake we often make, is that we fail to understand that the position of  Ghana Omanpanin, is one that though incredibly powerful, on paper, actually forces him,  or her, by definition, to rely on retainers whom, sadly for our nation,  often turn out to be either corrupt or arrogant (and, invariably, also incompetent, on top, too).

President Akufo-Addo, for example,  would be a much better leader, were the Yaw Osafo Marfos, the Nana Asante Bediatuos, the Gabby Asare Otchere-Darkos and  Ken Ofori-Attas, to serve him as ambassadors, posted to foreign lands, far away from Jubilee House and his Nima residence.

In your National Democratic Congress (NDC) party's case, perhaps former President John Dramani Mahama, would still be in power, today, if humble and wise young people like you, rather than geniuses like the Stan Dogbes, were his right hand men, at the Flagstaff House, when he had the opportunity to lead our country, ooooo,  Massa.

President Rawlings was an effective leader, because all the people around him knew that they wouldn't be spared if they tried to usurp his powers, like the Stan Dogbes did, yesteryear, and the Nana Asante Bediatuos are busy doing today.

For your information, President Rawlings,  also read the riot act to his family members -  making it  plain to all of them that if they messed up, he would not rescue them from their own foolishness, but that they would face the music,  just like any ordinary citizen would. It worked a treat, wai. His elder brother, Nii Addy, told me that, personally.

A Quick Note To The Brightest And Best Of Ghana's Younger Generations

Dear Reader,

This is a message that I just sent to a dear friend.  For common-good nation-building  reasons, one feels that one ought to share it with Ghana's younger generations, too. I have edited out names to spare the blushes of those who should have known better, but failed to act wisely, in this instance:

" **** the Great, I am just amazed that none of the many people I connected you to, failed to  see the potential of your invention, and thus were unable  to support you.

Take *****, for example. Why should a clever and wealthy businessman,  building a whole new city, *****, fail to see the competitive edge backing you would give him, in terms of high occupancy rates for the city's properties, simply because of the availability of affordable off-grid emission-free clean-power, that never goes off, regardless of  prevailing weather conditions? It's  crazy, ooooo, Massa.

The worst of them in my view, is *****. How can a highly-intelligent man, who talks endlessly about the need for innovation, and who also happens to  own a large rice mill worth millions of dollars, the major cost of which is electricity, not take the risk, and back you - when the amount involved is a few thousand dollars that he wouldn't bat an eyelid gifting to a slay-queen, to be his mistress, for a night? Amazing.

No wonder Ghana is failing to achieve her potential.  We are a mostly clueless and talkative people, Massa. That is the painful truth. Your invention could dramatically transform the fortunes of Ghana, overnight. Literally.

Take our collapsing  power sector, for example: It is at the same point - in terms of the innovative-curve - that stage-coach and carriage builders were, in 1860, when the inventor of the internal combustion engine, the Belgian Étienne Lenoir,  was granted a patent for his  invention.

The fact of the matter,  is that our country's power  sector  is now more or less  obsolete - and full of super-wealthy crooks, busy milking an industry with a smoke-and-mirrors ethos, which is moribund, as a result of the industry's leaderships' lack of foresight and imagination, over the decades, since it was unbundled. And we dream of a Ghana beyond aid? Tweaaaaaa..."

A Quick Note To Watercare UK

 Dear Watercare,

It appears that there might be a Brexit-opportunity for you in my native Ghana.

Illegal gold miners are polluting river systems sourced by the Ghana Water Company Limited, for treatment and distribution to the general public.

Can your company's nano filtration technology handle heavy metals and toxic chemicals used by the global unregulated gold mining sector?

If yes, then I suggest that you contact the country office, of Crown Agents, through the British High Commission, in Accra.

Thanks - and good luck!

Kind regards,

Kofi.

The Surreal World Of Social Media?

A Kafkaesque-interaction with a young member of a WhatsApp group I belong to, led to my being called "dishonest" by him. My crime? He believed  (erroneously), that I had intentionally posted our conversation, to the group. Nothing one said made any difference to him. So I asked him where his humanity was.

A subsequent conversation with a cultured  young  protégé of mine, whom I have known for over a decade and a half (and who was horrified that an intelligent young person would label a complete stranger, who happened to be a born-before-computer oldie and retiree, a dishonest person, simply because he had inadvertently posted what was meant to be a private chat conversation, publicly), led to my learning the meaning of the chat-jargon "side-bar". One learns something new everyday. Cool.

I have never liked the idea that globally,  people can hide behind "monikers"  (and not publishing their photographs to  identify themselves publicly), and still be allowed on to social media platforms, to insult people they would never dare insult, if they met them face to face.

Naturally, the irony that the WhatsApp genius calling me "dishonest", did not have an  identifying photograph, and was also also a moniker, on top of that, too, was not lost on me. It is one of the reasons why I stopped publishing on Ghanaweb.com, where tribalistic and uncouth blockheaded-cowards,  hiding behind computer screens, routinely  insult others, when commenting on posted articles.

To quote an wag I know: "Kofi, such is life in the age of social media - an online  digital-media-landscape peppered with narcissistic and egotistical folk, don't you think?" My response? No comment, ooooo, Massa. Hmmmm, eyeasem, ooooo - social media: Ey3 surreal paaaapa!

Not An Easy Job Being Ghana's Leader

Despite all the backstabbing from some of his own New Patriotic Party (NPP)  colleagues - the confounded greed-filled  big-thieves-in-high-places  -  President Akufo-Addo will go on to leave a good legacy, by the end of his second tenure.  For sure. Cool.

He will be remembered as the leader who saved Ghana from being destroyed by COVID-19.  However, amongst the key decisions he needs to make, to  secure his legacy, is to confound all his critics,  by declaring the Atewa Forest Reserve  a national park, and banning all mining in it. It will cement his green credentials - and shame all the doubting-Thomas-types.

Banning all mining in the Atewa Forest Reserve, and declaring it a national park, will be a landmark watershed-moment for Nana Addo's presidency - and help revive the sunken image of an administration that even though has only just began its second term,  is already beginning to look like a lame-duck regime, unfortunately.

As far as the Agyapa Royalties Jersey-domiciled offshore  special  purpose acquisition company (SPAC) is concerned,  the president will be wise to cancel it - as there is no doubt that it will lose its lustre soon. No question.  All SPACs will.  Definitely. The plain truth is that in time,  precious few investors will be drawn to them, as they become unfashionable and lose their shine.

Far better then, for Ghana to hold on to the US$200 million gold  royalties cash annually - and fund much needed vital projects with them instead. Finally, no one is perfect. On that basis, one wishes President Akufo-Addo well.  Poor man. Not an easy job being Ghana's leader, koraaaaa, ooooo.  Hmmm, eyeasem, ooooo. Eeiiii, Oman Ghana - enti yewieye paaa enei?

In An Age Of Global Pandemics And Interconnected Terroritst Organisations We Must Not Tolerate People-Smuggling Into Ghana

That most Nigerians are dynamic and hardworking is beyond doubt. It would also be fair to say that the small proportion  of the bad nuts amongst Nigerians living in Ghana, have ruined the image of the Nigerian community lawfully resident in Ghana.

To ensure continued good relations between Ghana and Nigeria, it is vital to root out the criminal elements amongst the Nigerians resident in Ghana. Ditto root out the criminal elements amongst Ghanaians living in Nigeria.

The question is: Why do the two nations not conduct joint registration excersises of their citizens living in each other's terriritory,  as soon as  practicable - and swiftly deport  all  those without valid documents?

It would appear that people-smugglers are making large profits bringing in Nigerians through unapproved land routes, to settle and work illegally in Ghana.  That is intolerable.  It must be halted. Now. Not tomorrow. Full stop.

According to bush-telegraph sources, criminal syndicates in the Gomoa Buduburam Camp Liberia refugee settlement area,  are, allegedly, a key part of the people-smuggling value-chain of  undocumented  Nigerians into Ghana.

Those in charge of our national security, tasked to ensure the safety of our Republic, must quickly  procure drones to enable the security agencies effectively monitor all our land borders 24/7. In an age of global pandemics, and  interconnected terroritst organisations, we  must not tolerate people-smuggling into Ghana, oooo. Yoooooooo...

A Quick Note To Dr. Michael Abedi-Lartey - On Why Ghanaians Must Support And Protect Patriotic Media Professionals

Dear Dr. Abedi-Lartey,

Massa, you are so right: Politicians are a breed apart. Globally. In Ghana,  only the more responsible sections of the media, can save our nation from the evolving certain-national-catastrophe, which our hard-of-hearing ruling-élites are leading us to.

Trouble is, truly honest media professionals,  who actually care about the plight of Mother Ghana, and seek the well-being of the masses of the Ghanaian populace, in their work, have become an endangered species, now fast dying out.

Alas, they are being hounded out of existence, by the  powerful malevolent-types, now chopping Ghana small nyafu-nyafu  - to paraphrase a Ghanaian pidgin English phrase of infamy.

The sad truth, is that the Ghanaian media landscape is full of compromised mercenary-hacks, who are the lackeys of the thieves-in-high-places, now busy destroying Ghana with their incompetence, greed and tiresome arrogance. That is why we must all support and protect honest and patriotic Ghanaian journalists risking their lives for their nation and its citizenry.

A Quick Note To The Minister For Lands And Natural Resources

Honourable Minister,

Galamsayers using excavators, are active in parts of the 14-square mile upland evergreen rainforest property of the late P. E. Thompson, at Akyem Juaso,  as we speak - working mostly at night. It is a defiant act that you must order an investigation into, immediately, using honest and dedicated public officials you personally trust.

The question is:  Who gave the galamsayers -  who are destroying our cocoa trees too -  access to what is a privately-owned freehold upland evergreen rainforest property, on the arboreal slopes, off the Atewa Forest Reserve?

Furthermore,  how did gold concessions come to be carved out of what is a freehold private rainforest property, not Stool land, without recourse to us, the legitimate owners,  in the first place, Sir?

Honourable Minister, the land in question, was earmarked by my branch of the P. E. Thompson family tree, for a conservation-through-ecotourism initiative. The idea was to give the local community a sustainable green future.

Yet, our freehold rainforest property, is now being destroyed by galamsayers, with total impunity, as a result of the actions and inactions of corrupt officials of the regulatory bodies  -  who capriciously handed over our private freehold property to private citizens, to destroy and profit from, without recourse to us the legitimate owners, whatsoever:  to the detriment of what is a designated Globally Significant Biodiversity Area (GSBA) in the Atewa Range.

Honourable Minister, nothing can justify this outrage. The dangerous mosquito-breeding  open  mining pit, left years ago by Hagnela Mining Company, and its assigns, must be filled and covered up immediately, and the land there reclaimed scientifically.

Please make an example of all those involved in this ongoing defiant act of egregious-lawlessness, being perpetrated by greedy and ruthless  galamsayers, in part of the 14-square mile freehold upland evergreen rainforest property, of the late P. E. Thompson,  at the Akyem Juaso section of the Atewa Range, even as we speak. Thanks.

We Must Say No To The Passage Of Laws To Control Media Content In Ghana

If we want to become, and remain,  a free and innovative society, then we must stop politicians from trying to control media content in our homeland Ghana. It is said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Today's crop of politicians might all be saintly individuals - but who is to know that  tomorrow's politicians might not turn out to be ruthless and devilish tyrants: who will use control of media content as a key building-block to establish a tyranny in Ghana?

Wherever there is a free exchange of ideas, the best ideas always come to the fore,  and propel democratic societies forward. We must never allow freedom of expression to be limited in Ghana for that reason.

Rather than giving the illiberal folk in Ghana seeking to control and manipulate the media,  by giving them the power to control media content, we must always pass laws to deal with specific societal needs, whenever the need to do so arises, instead.

For example,  if we want to deny today's sikaduro-quest's value chain, the oxygen of publicity,  and end that murderous-evil that way, then let us simply pass draconian laws making the entire sikaduro-quest's  value-chain, serious crimes, punishable with mandatory life sentences.

That is always a far better approach, than passing laws to control media content to achieve such societal needs, in a corruption-riddled society such as ours -  in which powerful thieves-in-high-places have been the dominant force, in every administration, since the 1992 Constitution  was promulgated.

At all costs, we need to stop politicians from controling media content in our country - as a truly free media is the most effective antidote to the  high-level corruption slowly destroying Ghanaian democracy: and eroding our moral fabric into the bargain on top. We must say no to the  passage of laws to control media content in Ghana.

Parliament Must Only Pass Laws Redounding To The Citizenry's Benefit

The skirt-and-blouse presidential and parliamentary elections  of December 2020, delivered a stern rebuke to the New Patriotic Party  (NPP), from the electorate -  many of whom had become thoroughly fed up with the arrogance and greed of the thieves-in-high-places ruining President Akufo-Addo's legacy.

The earlier the Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsus took that rebuke into account, and humbled themselves, the easier life in the years ahead, will be for them, in the politics of our country. The time has now come for those currently in power to understand clearly that the days when Bills were railroaded through Parliament, are over, in as as far as the 8th Parliament is concerned.

The vast majority of the masses of the Ghanaian populace want Parliament to halt the high-level corruption slowly destroying our country - by ensuring that only laws that rebound to the benefit of the citizenry, in whom sovereignty ultimately resides, under our system,  are passed by the 8th Parliament. The Speaker, Rt. Hon.  Alban Bagbin must ensure that, at all material times. Yoooooooo...

Transform The GHS Mortuaries Department Into Transition Department - Key Frontline Healthcare Professionals In Serial-Pandemics Era

As more and more forests are cleared worldwide, humankind must face the fact that there will be a spike in zoonotic diseases. No  question. We are moving into the era of serial-pandemics. Thus, if we are to survive that new era, we must  radically change how we view cadavers.

In cases like Ebola, for example, the virus is at its deadliest, in dead  bodies. That could also be the case, in other yet-to-evolve zoonotic diseases, in the not too distant future. Leaking body-bags in cemetaries contaminating soils and groundwater, countrywide, is a risk we must not subject future generations to. Ever.

The question is: Does that call for  us to accept that no matter our status in society, when we die, our bodies will not be released to our families, but will be quickly cremated by the state,  as a public health measure? Logically, burying dead bodies will not make sense, in the era of serial-pandemics.

We will only have our memories of family members and friends, who pass away, to remember them by - as we will no longer see them laid in state for viewing. Perhaps we will also have their funerals at the same time that they are cremated - in private ceremonies limited to only 25 individuals observing disease-prevention protocols.

In view of all the above, the organisers of the Ghana National Medical Excellence Awards, deserve praise, for advocating for the rebranding of the Mortuaries Department of the Ghana Health Service  (GHS), and calling for the adoption of the name Transition Department - whose professionals (in both the public and private sectors), will be key frontline healthcare workers, in our nation's fight to survive the era of  serial-pandemics.
