Do Ghana's Forest Reserves Not Exist To Be Bequeathed By Each Generation To Successive Generations As Their Natural Heritage?

As someone who has firsthand knowledge of the bountifulness of Mother Nature, one finds it  pretty hard to understand those who can look on unconcerned when our forests are allowed by the authorities to be destroyed - by issuing permits and licenses to mining companies to exploit the mineral deposits they sit atop of.

One also finds it perplexing that there are fellow humans who can in good conscience tear down forests that have evolved over millions of years without compunction - in pursuit of riches. That really is pretty hard to take.

Perhaps one can console one's self with the knowledge that on the timescale of the evolution of the universe, nature will always recover over time, when assaulted in such brutal fashion by those who mine in our country's forest reserves.

Ironically, it is rather greedy and selfish humankind that is now threatened by events such as the extreme weather we now experience regularly that  result from global climate change. Clearly, humankind could eventually become extinct - if our activities eventually end up  making our one biosphere uninhabitable.

Alas, what seems to escape many Ghanaians is that Mother Nature's revenge when provoked can be terrifying. That is why we must bring an end to the shortsighted government policy of allowing mining to take place in forest reserves.

Forest reserves were created for the sole purpose of bequeathing them to successive generations of our people as their natural heritage to treasure and benefit from. Let us save all our forest reserves for that noble purpose instead of allowing them to be destroyed for short-term gain by mining companies.
