fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables contain flavonoids in very small amounts.
Experts agree... eating a diet rich in fruits and especially vegetables can go a long way toward keeping you healthy.
How? Largely because of a special class of antioxidant compounds called flavonoids. Flavonoids are the biggest family of polyphenolic compounds and are more simply called polyphenols.
Plants naturally produce flavonoids to help protect themselves against harsh conditions, UV light, injury and parasitic invaders.
When you consume flavonoids, their rich supply of phytochemicals interacts with enzyme systems involved in some of your body’s most crucial pathways.
These super-antioxidants are so important to your health, your well-being depends on them. Studies show the more flavonoids you consume, the lower your risk for developing adverse health effects.
However, two basic facts about flavonoids and polyphenols can keep you from getting enough...
Flavonoid antioxidants exist in foods in very minute amounts. And they’re typically hard for your body to use. Take the resveratrol in grapes for example – the notorious “French paradox” polyphenol behind the 1992 study on heart health and the French population.
It’s no secret that you would have to consume a lot of wine to enjoy resveratrol’s many benefits – something I don’t recommend. To get the same amount of resveratrol as what’s in one capsule of our Purple Defense formula (50 mg) you’d have to drink 39 glasses of red wine!
A similar situation applies to the two little-known flavonoids that I want to tell you about now. Best of all, I’m excited to tell you how we found a way to isolate them, making them more plentiful and bioavailable, or usable, for your body to benefit.
Two Super Antioxidants You Likely Haven't Heard Much About... At Least, Not Yet
pterostilbene amount in blueberries
You'd have to eat several hundred pounds of blueberries to get a significant amount of pterostilbene.
Quercetin is a natural flavonoid found in very small amounts in many foods, such as apples, berries, onions, broccoli, black tea and a flower from the Sophora japonica tree.
Widely distributed in the plant kingdom, quercetin has played an important role in folk medicine for centuries.
Another powerful antioxidant, pterostilbene, is naturally produced by blueberries and other small berries, but the amount each berry produces is incredibly small.
Just to give you an idea, you’d have to eat several hundred pounds of blueberries to get a significant amount of pterostilbene!
Sounds like the resveratrol dilemma, doesn’t it?
So, the same two basic facts about quercetin and pterostilbene prevent you from getting sufficient amounts:
You would need to consume impossibly or undesirably large amounts of their richest sources (accompanied by too much sugar).
In their natural states, the bioavailability, or your body’s ability to absorb them, is poor or inadequate.
In other words, even if you could consume large enough amounts of blueberries, apples, onions and other good sources of quercetin and pterostilbene, you still may not fully benefit from these two outstanding antioxidant nutrients.
But why does that matter? Why would you want more quercetin and pterostilbene than these foods can provide?
What's All the Fuss About Quercetin and Pterostilbene?
First, let’s start with quercetin, the one you’re more likely to be familiar with...
Western scientists began studying quercetin around the same time the Nobel Prize was awarded in 1937 for the discovery of vitamin C and rutin, a quercetin-containing bioflavonoid.
Quercetin offers an impressive array of potential health benefits:
quercetin supports respiratory and bronchial health*
Quercetin supports year-round respiratory and bronchial health.*
Supports your natural defense against seasonal threats*
Supports lung and bronchial tract health*
Supports the production of new mitochondria in your brain and muscle*
Supports a healthy, normal immune response*
Helps protect cells and tissues against free radical damage*
Supports a normal, healthy histamine release*
Supports an already normal inflammatory response*
Boosts mental performance following extreme physical stress*
Supports healthy cellular aging*
Helps protect against lipid peroxidation in your cells and tissues*
Supports metabolic health*
As you can see, quercetin offers some pretty impressive potential benefits but so do some other antioxidants. So what makes quercetin so special?
The Love-Hate Relationship Between Antioxidants and Exercise... How Quercetin is Different
Recent studies suggest that exercise and antioxidant supplements may work against each other. In fact, one study even shows that certain antioxidants can cancel out some of the beneficial effects of exercise.
So-called “direct” antioxidants (like vitamins C and E) react directly and quench free radicals.
Exercise
Can taking antioxidants make exercise seem more difficult?
On the other hand, quercetin and polyphenols boost your body’s inner antioxidant response and perform their “antioxidant” activity indirectly. They do this through the expression of certain genes and by Nrf2-mediated stimulation of your cell’s antioxidant system.
So what does this have to do with the effects of exercise on your body?
During exercise, your consumption of oxygen increases and so does your mitochondrial activity. As a normal response, reactive oxygen species are produced.
When you take a vitamin C supplement during exercise, because it works to quench free radicals, it may, at the same time, lower your endurance capacity, because some free radicals are actually important biological signaling molecules.
Because of quercetin’s indirect response on free radicals, you may experience the opposite effect during exercise – greater endurance, as seen in this important study...
Amateur Triathlon Athletes Taking Quercetin Phytosome Reported Greater Training Satisfaction and Experienced Faster Recovery and Less Muscular Discomfort After Sprints*
Anyone who’s ever sprinted in a triathlon knows how demanding it can be on your body. Triathlon athletes need high levels of endurance or continued strength to get through their training and competition. Fast recovery from training is also crucial to their success.
One of the biggest challenges for triathlon athletes is the oxidative stress that occurs during exercise. Intense training increases the production of free radicals and reactive oxygen species, which can cause delayed recovery and post-training discomfort.
This is where certain antioxidant compounds can help, especially quercetin.*
In a recent study, a group of 23 triathlon athletes took 250 mg of quercetin phytosome twice daily. A control group of 25 used none. At the end of the 14-day study, performance, post-training discomfort, cramps, time to full recovery and oxidative stress were measured.
Triathlon athletes
Triathlon athletes had less post-run muscular discomfort and recovered faster with Quercetin phytosome.*
Overall, training was considered more valuable and both performance and endurance were improved in the group that supplemented with quercetin, compared to the control group.
Participants taking the quercetin phytosome were able to reduce their time to complete the race by about 10 percent after two weeks. Some even reported that they found their experience to be more pleasant and less stressful!
Here is what researchers found with the quercetin phytosome group:
Post-run muscular discomfort incidence was lower.
Cramps and localized discomfort were improved.
Post-recovery time was considered better.
Oxidative stress was reduced.
Please keep in mind... These results were seen with quercetin phytosome and not regular quercetin. Because of quercetin’s typical low bioavailability, you wouldn’t expect to see the same results with non-phytosomal quercetin.
Government-Funded Animal and Human Research Leads to the Development of a Quercetin Supplement for Military Personnel
Maintaining the health of soldiers and other military personnel during training and deployment is a top government priority. In 2007, the U.S. Department of Defense set out to see if quercetin might be a useful tool for their personnel.
U.S. military on quercetin supplements
After funding quercetin studies in 2007, the U.S. military ordered supplements for personnel.
After directly funding animal and human research, they uncovered some interesting effects of quercetin on wellness and mental performance...
Study animals receiving quercetin had significantly lower morbidity and mortality than the placebo group when challenged with a serious threat to their well-being.*
Cyclists enduring physical stress for three days in a row were nine times more likely to remain well when taking quercetin, compared to those who didn’t.*
Athletes taking quercetin maintained their ability to react to an alertness test when exhausted, compared to the much slower response of those taking the non-quercetin placebo.
Convinced of quercetin’s potential benefits, the U.S. government developed a quercetin supplement for their military personnel.
That supplement is still used today.
How Our Enhanced Quercetin Phytosome Complex Outperforms Traditional Quercetin
blood-brain barrier
Animal studies suggest quercetin can reach and accumulate in your brain, lungs, liver, muscles and more.
Many traditional quercetin supplements have a huge problem... They’re not easy for your body to absorb and use.
Even with regular quercetin’s limited bioavailability, studies show it can be detected in your blood within 30 minutes of ingestion and reaches a peak concentration in two to three hours.
Animal studies suggest it may reach and accumulate in your brain, lungs, colon, kidneys, liver and muscles.
Researchers know quercetin can cross your blood-brain barrier, so it can reach every tissue in your body, including your brain tissue.
Imagine what might happen if there was a way to make quercetin even more bioavailable in your body...
Well, I’m excited to say that we’ve found a way to help you benefit from more of what quercetin has to offer. We’ve taken quercetin to an advanced level with the help of liposomal technology.
Our advanced Quercetin Phytosome Complex offers 20 times the bioavailability of regular quercetin!
But that’s not all. We added the other exciting super antioxidant, pterostilbene, to make our formula work extra hard for your seasonal and year-round well-being...
Resveratrol's Lookalike Cousin, Pterostilbene: A Marvel for Your Brain, Cellular and Metabolic Health
trans-Pterostilbene and brain health
trans-Pterostilbene stays active in your blood longer and has been sjhown to support brain health, even at low doses.
In recent years, stilbenes, a class of polyphenolic compounds, have created much interest among researchers.
Two stilbenes in particular, pterostilbene and resveratrol, have generated the most buzz.
While resveratrol, the valuable polyphenol from grapes that we talked about earlier, is certainly the better known of the two, researchers have recently begun paying even more attention to pterostilbene.
Although the two share a similar structure, pterostilbene has three advantages:
It is dissolvable in fats, which helps it to be better absorbed by your body.
It has a longer half-life in your blood, which means it has more time to deliver potential benefits.*
It is more biologically active than resveratrol once it’s absorbed.
Like resveratrol, pterostilbene activates genes associated with longevity. Pterostilbene offers a wide range of beneficial effects, especially for your cellular, metabolic and brain health.*
Even at low doses, the active form of pterostilbene, trans-pterostilbene, was shown in recent animal studies to support brain health and aging, including memory and learning.*
Our Quercetin and Pterostilbene Advanced Formula Can Help You Take Control of Your Health®
Our Quercetin and Pterostilbene Advanced formula contains not just one but two extraordinary ingredients to support your seasonal health, brain health, metabolism and weight management, immune and inflammatory response, healthy cellular aging and exercise recovery.*
sophora japonica flower bud
Our Quercetin Phytosome Complex comes from the Sophora japonica flower bud.
Quercetin and Pterostilbene Advanced contains:
Quercetin Phytosome Complex from Styphnolobium japonicum, or the Sophora japonica flower bud.
trans-Pterostilbene, the active form of pterostilbene, which is nature identical to blueberries.
Again, our Quercetin Phytosome Complex is an enhanced version of quercetin that incorporates phospholipids to protect the quercetin and aid in the formation of liposomes in your stomach.*
These liposomes surround the quercetin complex and assist its transport across your cell membranes for increased absorption potential. This is the same liposomal technology found in our Liposomal Vitamin C and Liposomal Vitamin D.
Thanks to this advanced technology, our Quercetin Phytosome Complex offers 20 times the bioavailability of regular quercetin, and our trans-Pterostilbene provides four times the bioavailability of ordinary pterostilbene!
Try Our Multi-Pronged Approach to Support Your Health and Well-Being*
So which supplements pair well with Quercetin and Pterostilbene Advanced to support your health and well-being?
I encourage you to get the most out of Quercetin and Pterostilbene Advanced by combining it with one or more of our other formulas:
quercetin product bundle
Liposomal Vitamin C
Vitamin C works synergistically with quercetin to provide antioxidant support and to support immune balance.* Researchers have found that vitamin C enhances plasma quercetin levels. Liposomal Vitamin C may enhance the absorption of Quercetin and Pterostilbene Advanced.*
Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin acts in the lipid portions of your cells and tissues. Because it is completely fat-based rather than having an affinity for both fats and water like quercetin and pterostilbene, our Organic Astaxanthin can help with the migration of both compounds across your cell membranes.*
Purple Defense
Resveratrol is similar in structure to pterostilbene and researchers have discovered they have complementary actions in your body. Both work together to activate your all-important longevity genes with resveratrol’s actions considered “upstream” and pterostilbene’s actions “downstream” from resveratrol’s sites of activity.
Consider Quercetin and Pterostilbene Advanced your multi-pronged approach to health and well-being!
Choose Quercetin and Pterostilbene Advanced for Your Seasonal Health and Much More...*
