AN OPEN LETTER TO BRIGADIER GENERAL NUNOO-MENSAH!

Sir, like many independent-minded Ghanaian patriots and nationalists, I am sure that you sometimes despair, about the nature of our nation's political culture.

Is it not incredible, that whiles millions of ordinary Ghanaians struggle just to survive, some of the members of our nation's political class, who are supposed to bring ordinary Ghanaians some relief, by devoting their energies to finding solutions to Ghana's myriad problems, rather waste precious time talking about absurdities and inanities, such as "juju rings" - in the 21st centrury ICT age?

Opanin, why did Nii Lante Vanderpuije have to dignify such mambo-jambo and superstitious rubbish, by responding to it - and apparently not even being accurate with his facts too, when so doing? Sir, bolt that man's "okro-mouth" before he does permanent damage to your regime.

Anyhow, I am writing to you, because you are one of the few truly honest individuals, amongst those close to President Mills. An appeal to a man of unalloyed integrity, ought to obtain results - in what has come to be regarded, perhaps unfairly, as a hard-of-hearing and complacent regime.

Opanin, how has it come about that the hardest working, most honest and selfless individual to lead Ghana, since Nkrumah's overthrow in 1966, has such a bad press - and has ended up becoming so unpopular too?

Rid your regime of that small and over-pampered army of PR geniuses, whose monumental incompetence, has allowed that to occur, and so needlessly too. Replace them all with Nii Moi Thompson - for he will deliver where they failed so miserably.

It is still not too late to enable the image of President Mills to be burnished. But the president must take certain crucial steps immediately. First, he must publicly publish the assets of both himself and his spouse. It will enable him to immediately occupy the high moral ground in Ghanaian politics.

How many of the hypocrites and chancers who want to be president of Nkrumah's Ghana, will be honest and transparent enough to publicly publish their assets, I ask, Opanin? It is such a pity this same sound advice from some of us, was ignored, when your regime first came to power - as it was by Kufuor & Co., too!

The super-greedy and hypocritical Kufuor promised to do so early in his presidency, but never did - as he never really meant it when he made that empty promise, at the Independence Square. Nkrumah, as you know, died a pauper - despite the many lies told about the unimaginable wealth his political opponents alleged he had salted away, overseas.

H. E. President Mills has a historic opportunity to set a new standard for those who aspire to the high position, of president, of the Republic of Ghana. And publicly publishing the assets of himself and his dear wife, our first lady, Naadu, is the perfect way to do so.

Above all, hopefully, Mrs Rawlings will respond by following suit and walking her endless talk of probity, accountability and principle, and do same. Ditto, Ekow Spio-Garbrah - and if all your administration's appointees do same too, it will enable the NDC put clear blue water between itself and the grasping-folk-filled NPP.

(Sir, your NDC party's two feuding sides must unite at all costs. For the NPP is a political party that Ghanaian Progressives must never allow to return to power any time soon - unless it rids itself of the baleful influence of that small group of tribal-supremacist individuals who dominate it.

After that, all it's members must come together to work to jettison their party's (top-secret!) hidden-agenda of empowering today's descendants of the pre-colonial Akan ruling elites to dominate Ghana, till the very end of time.

Imagine that - and in Nkrumah's Ghana, too. What pure nonsense on bamboo stilts that dangerous and foolish dream is, in a unitary Republic of diverse-ethnicity, of equal tribes, non superior or inferior to the other, Opanin. But I digress!)

So, back to topic: Henceforth, the president must also ignore the negative advice, of those who have allowed the alienation of President Rawlings and his wife, as well as Spio Garbrah, to occur - and send word to Rawlings & Co., that immediately after the July 2011 National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership contest, he will bring Mrs. Rawlings and Spio-Garbrah into the government.

There was no need for anyone to alienate them at all - indeed it was foolish. Look where it has led, today. Mrs. Rawlings will make the perfect running mate for President Mills, in the December 2012 presidential election.

Spio-Garbrah will make a perfect minister for a new communications ministry, which combines the information ministry with that of communications. Together with Nii Moi Thompson, they will make mincemeat of the NPP dissemblers.

The plain truth, is that the hypocritical and clever crooks who lurk in your regime (those Flt Lt. Rawlings has described as "greedy bastards"), are simply not worth hanging unto - if their dismissal will satisfy Rawlings & Co., and help reunite the NDC.

So do make sure they are all dismissed forthwith, Sir. And please do something dramatic and symbolic, about punishing wrong-doing from the Kufuor era.

Is there not the clear-cut and unambigous case, of the two irrigation system contracts, in which one was cancelled so capriciously by the imperious Mr. Kwadjo Mpianim - despite advice against such action by the then Attorney General, the Hon. Joe Gharttey?

What biased pro-NPP judge will be so foolish as to allow him to escape punishment, in such a clear-cut case, I ask?

So get the Attorney General, the Hon. Martim Amidu, to prosecute and have Kwadjo Mpianim jailed for wilfully causing financial loss to our homeland Ghana, in that instance - to show that abuse of power in the Ghana of today, simply does not pay.

And get the relevant individuals and entities in the administration, to take steps to also prosecute all those who sanctioned the departure, from the original design for the Tetteh Quarshie interchange, which allowed the Accra Mall to be built where it should never have been.

And get the appropriate state agency to obtain a court order to bulldoze that monument to unbridled nepotism, unfathomable greed and affront to common decency, to the ground soonest - so that those who get elected into office in future, will be mindful of bending the rules to enrich members of their family clans: at the expense of the rest of us.

No one who loves Ghana is happy that those in high places in the Kufuor era who are guilty of it, seem to be getting away with yesteryear's egregious abuse of power.

Finally, why is President Mills toadying to Kufuor's divisive and tribal-supremacist tribal Chieftain?

Outside Kufuor's family clan, did he not benefit from Kufuor's outrageous abuse of power, more than any other individual in Ghana?

With respect, is President Mills not aware that inherited privilege is the greatest enemy of meritocracy - and must therefore keep all Ghana's Chiefs, bar none, at arms length?

If some of the New Patriotic Party bigwigs, who acted illegally in the past during their tenure, can be sanctioned at the same time as some of today's "greedy bastards" in your regime, it will make a real difference to the fortunes of the best individual to lead the NDC into the December 2012 elections, and the best man to lead Nkrumah's Ghana, after the December 2012 presidential election: President John Evans Fifi Atta Mills. Opanin, will you rise to the occasion - by ensuring all of the above? A word to the wise...
