Ghana is a very lucky African nation-state indeed. We had the best-suited elected leader, in place, when COVID-19 spread, and became a global pandemic, threatening humanity, by killing millions, and destroying countless businesses, worldwide.
It was devine intervention that the most effective elected leader, since the overthrow of the great President Nkrumah, in 1966, President Akufo-Addo (whom I support 100 percent, but whose New Patriotic Party (NPP), I loathe for its Akan tribal-supremacist tendencies, although I am an Akant too), happened to lead our country, when COVID-19 struck in 2020. He has prevented it overwhelming our public health system, and made sure it does not destroy our national economy by supporting businesses financially.
After Ghanaians punished the ruling NPP, by depriving them of their majority, in the new 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic, during the December 2020 elections (by many, including moi, resorting to the strategy of voting skirt-and-blouse), we now have a hung Parliament, led by the longest serving parliamentarian, in Ghana's history, the Right Honourable Alban Bagbin, a committed one-nation consensus-seeking-politician, as our new Speaker of Parliament, the fourth highest office in our country.
A fair-minded gentleman's-gentleman, as the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bagbin, will ensure that Parliament finally becomes alive to its oversight-responsibilities, and effectively checks both the executive, and judicial arms, of government, whiles ensuring, as a patriotic who loves his nation passionately, that grid-lock never holds back the nation-building-process, under any circumstances. Cool.
Above all, as Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, who cares deeply about the plight of ordinary people (especially those of them who are deprived and marginalised), will ensure that the 4th Republic's Parliament, never becomes a corruption-riddled, scratch-my-back-I-scratch-yours-too mutual-admiration-debating-society feathering their own nests (to send their personal and family net worth to stratospheric heights). We must all hail Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, who is definitely the best-prepared major political figure, ever to become Speaker - in any Parliament, since Ghana became independent, in 1957. Cool.
