Jay Elwes In Conversation with Sir David Omand
by Saskia Abdoh / March 26, 2018

After the outrage in Salisbury, what are we to make of Vladimir Putin’s aggressive posture towards the west? Is it a sign of strength or of weakness and furthermore how long can Russia afford to keep up such a hostile front? But then Putin is just one of several world leaders to have slipped towards a more authoritarian style of rule. The Chinese President has just made himself effective president for life, Eastern Europe is seeing a rise in nationalistic politics and the current occupant of the White House also displays a worrying admiration for these strongman-style leaders.

Join Jay Elwes, Executive Editor at Prospect Magazine and Sir David Omand, former head of GCHQ who will discuss whether this is a passing phase, or a new, darker era of international relations? And what it might mean for Britain?
