UK start-up aims to slash the cost of satellite launches

A UK start-up has raised $7m (£5m) for modular satellites that cut the cost of launches from millions to £500,000, making it the latest start-up to capitalise on Britain's burgeoning space sector.
Open Cosmos makes tiny satellites, or nano-satellites, which can be then customised by the buyer. The company's satellites weigh as little as 6kg and several can be launched at one time.
Open Cosmos, which recently its first contracts with the European Space Agency, says it saves money on launches by managing the process from start to finish, from set-up to controlling the satellite in orbit. The four year-old start-up raised the money from BGF Ventures and LocalGlobe, early backers of Zoopla.
