Energy report
Swiss electricity getting greener

New renewable energy sources such as wind and solar make up a small but rising proportion of the total.
(Keystone)
Switzerland’s energy consumption is getting greener, with 68% of it coming from renewable sources in 2017, compared with 62% the previous year.
The share from nuclear sources fell from 16.9% to 15.1%, according to a Federal Office of Energy report released on Fridayexternal link.
Most energy came from large-scale hydroelectric power (60.5%). New renewable energy sources - solar, wind, small-scale hydroelectric power and biomass - accounted for 7.2%, up from 5.9% in 2016. Only small amounts of electricity came from rubbish and fossil fuels (each under 1%).
“For 16% of the delivered energy, the origin and composition is not verifiable,” explained an energy office statement. This is because large energy intensive companies buy fossil fuel and nuclear electricity from the European market without buying the proofs of origin that go with it, the office added.
This should change for the next set of energy statistics in 2020. Since this year it has been forbidden to declare electricity as “from non-verifiable energy sources”.
International comparison
Switzerland produces 55% of the renewable energy consumed in the country.
Worldwide, solar, wind and hydroelectric power accounts for 25% of electricity consumption, according to Lucy Pao an energy expertexternal link from the United States, who was speaking at a sustainability conferenceexternal link in Vienna on Friday.
In some countries with a lot of hydropower, like Austria, it’s a lot higher: 72%. In Norway, up to 95% comes from hydroelectric sources, she said.

Green Energy Paradox 05-Apr-2019 18:33
The Green Energy Paradox states that there are contained carbon emissions and damages to the Earth's biodiversity in the production, installation, and maintenance of Wind, Solar, Hydro, Hybrid Vehicles, etc. The wind power shown in the photo cuts down forests and prevents forests from growing, reducing carbon sequestration. Those wind blades kill birds, who spread seed, enabling forests to adapt to warming and to sequester carbon. WInd power also contributes to over-population growth, which is the main, over-riding multiplier of carbon emissions and warming. The same problems apply to solar, hydro, and other green technologies to varying degrees.
If all of the Earth's growing infrastructure were retrofitted with green energy, there would be a GIGANTIC RELEASE OF CARBON, causing MASSIVE WARMING.
Green Energy is a myth- a false "solution".
The Wynes and Nicholas Environmental Research papers show that buying green energy enables an individual to only avoid adding 1.8 tons of carbon annually, while having one less child in a developing country avoids adding 58 tons of emissions. THE Child FREE avoid around 120 tonnes annually: 60 times more effective in reducing global WARMING than green technology.
Climate Education is Backwards, promoting the least effective-Technology, while ignoring the most effective-CONTRACEPTION.
Green Technology is not the solution. CHILD-FREE is the only proven solution: half the current population of 7.8 billion equals half the problems. PERIOD.

Your assessment makes perfect sense. However, I can only speak for myself. Most politicians would not want to hear about it because recognizing these axiomatic principles means negating their ethical or religious convictions. It would not be propitious either for their political careers. There probably are a few scientists among the political elite but you have to be really lucky to find any biologists. The basic concept is to live in harmony with nature. Most animals do so because it is in their genes. The human species feels so darned superior in intelligence that does not even allow to understand this. Maybe you could think of another one. To my knowledge, Buddhism is the only religion that teaches the respect for nature.
