Social Europe
It
is with great sadness that we announce the death of Social Europe
Publisher Klaus Mehrens, who passed away in late October after a long
illness. Throughout his life, Klaus consistently furthered the causes of
social justice and forward-looking thinking to improve fairness in
society, in his professional life as a trade union official at IG Metall
and in his personal efforts to help Social Europe develop as well as
through his involvement in countless charitable causes.
Klaus,
an economist by training, was instrumental in broadening the activities
of Social Europe and strengthening its trade union links in particular.
He was a trusted advisor and steward who played a significant role in
making Social Europe as successful as it is today.
"Klaus
was a thoughtful mentor and a strategic mind who helped propel our
publishing operation onto a new level," said Social Europe
Editor-in-Chief Henning Meyer. "But above all we at Social Europe, and
very much I personally, have lost a very good friend. His loss leaves a
void that cannot be filled."
There
will be a memorial service in his native Hamburg on 21st November.
Should you wish to send your condolences please email us at info@socialeurope.eu
byThursday 7th November, stating your name and where you are from. We
will collect all messages and pass them on to his family. Even if you
never met him, it would mean a lot to show how many people from all over
the world Klaus has touched with his work. Thank you very much.
