Dear Colleagues,
My book The Archipelago of Hope <http://archipelagohope.com/> is a labor of love, an important steppingstone on a winding road of discovery, and a chance to reflect on the lessons learned. The quest might be personal, but the pursuit is by no means a solitary one. The journey would not have been possible without the generosity, kindness, and support of countless human and non-human beings that I have been fortunate to meet and travel alongside.
I am indebted to the Indigenous communities who have welcomed me into their lives, endured my ignorance, patiently shared their wisdom, while steering me toward a deeper understanding of our changing world.
I am thankful to the Indigenous communities, organizations, and individuals profiled in the book for allowing me to take photographs, record interviews, and share these materials in a book, and related print acknowledgments and web-based publications and exhibits, to help raise awareness about climate change.
I can only hope that the important stories I have tried to capture visually and write about, do some justice to the wisdom and resilience of the Indigenous cultures; the beauty of their ancestral territories; and the significance of their traditional knowledge, wisdom, and governance, for the well-being of us all.
The Archipelago of Hope is on sale now <http://archipelagohope.com/order-book/>. All proceeds from the sale of the book and donations go toward “The Archipelago of Hope Indigenous Resilience Fund, <https://www.paypal.com/donate/?token=4RuWs1k7XfnILELpimI8U6u6F48ABa4nQIVBIyHEt71gO6HIXs2hUYHPMG84t3R_XmYfAm&country.x=CA&locale.x=CA>” established through Land is Life (www.landislife.org <http://www.landislife.org/>), which is meant to support the communities profiled in the book.
To date, the book has received a number of positive reviews: Orion Magazine <https://orionmagazine.org/2017/11/eight-questions-author-gleb-raygorodetsky-archipelago-hope/>, Cultural Survival <https://www.culturalsurvival.org/news/archipelago-hope-wisdom-and-resilience-edge-climate-change>, WNYC <http://www.wnyc.org/story/archipelago-hope-indigenous-peoples-confront-climate-change/>, BlueDot <http://mynspr.org/post/blue-dot-76-archipelago-hope#stream/0>, Revelator <http://therevelator.org/indigenous-wisdom-climate-change/>.
