Why President Akufo-Addo Must Recall And Sack George Ayisi Boateng Immediately

We had hoped that by this evening, President Akufo-Addo would have listened to the many voices calling for the recalling and dismissal of H. E. George Ayisi Boateng, from his exalted position as Ghana's High Commissioner to South Africa.

UnfortunateIy, even as we speak, incredibly, George Ayisi Boateng still remains Ghana's top diplomat in South Africa. Hmm, Oman Ghana - eyeasem o: asem kesie ebeba debi ankasa.

Yet, unlike all the other nations in the continent of Africa where Ghana has diplomats accredited to, and  maintains diplomatic missions in, Ghanaian citizens resident in South Africa uniquely live in a nation in which xenophobic attacks against foreign migrants are unfortunately a regular occurrence.

The idea that we have sent a rabidly-partisan politician - whose priority is to "take care" of members and supporters of the ruling party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) - to represent the Republic of Ghana in a nation in which foreigners are constantly at risk of either being maimed or murdered in zenophobic attacks, is alarming  and totally unacceptable.

For that reason alone, President  Akufo-Addo must do the decent thing - by recalling George Ayisi Boateng from South Africa and immediately dismissing him from his post as high commissioner. As a people we don't need narrow-mined people of his ilk to represent our country anywhere in the world. Period.

And, lest we forget, the salaries of all Ghanaian diplomats stationed abroad  are  paid from taxes collected from ordinary people - including political party supporters and members from across the political spectrum. If that fact escapes our atavistic man in South Africa, this blog is reminding him of it. 

The question is: How can taxpayers whose relations live in South Africa and are identifiable supporters and members of parties opposed  to the NPP rest assured that they will not be left to their own devices by George Ayisi Boateng when the next wave of zenophobia sweeps across South Africa and they risk being killed - simply because not being NPP members they will not be his "priority" for rescuing and being  evacuated to Ghana?

That, above all, is why George Ayisi Boateng's mealy-mouthed excuses and apology of an apology, are pointless and worthless. It is monstrous and unpardonable that the Republic of Ghana has a rabidly-partisan politician such as the  provincial-minded George Ayisi Boateng as its top diplomat in a tense and unpredictable society such as South Africa's.

President Akufo-Addo must rid himself of such a cynical and discriminatory fellow. The plain truth is that with a mindset and worldview  like his George Ayisi Boateng is totally unfit to represent the Republic of Ghana anywhere outside our nation's borders. Full stop. Haaba.
