A Prayer To God Almighty For Mother Ghana

Dear God,

Thank you so much  for giving our homeland Ghana a tough-minded leader, bold and wise enough to understand just how vital it is, for the long-term well-being of present and future generations of the Ghanaian people that what is left of our country's natural heritage, is preserved at all costs. Today. Not tomorrow - when it will be way too late to make amends for the egregious short-termism of those managing our national economy, which is  ruining priceless forests providing vital ecosystem services that underpin our quality of life countrywide.

Above all, we pray that you will touch the hearts of the bean-counting philistines in President Akufo-Addo's administration, and open the eyes of the vice-president and minister of finance, especially, and make them understand clearly, why at a time of global climate change, we must never destroy the natural environment in blind pursuit of GDP growth, without once pausing to reflect on what actually constitutes that growth in the real world, on the ground, so to speak. Haaba.

Almighty God, please give Mother Ghana a much-needed miracle, by making it possible for all the members of our nation's hard-of-hearing political class to read the culled content below from the website of Veridium - so that they will understand the folly and obtuseness of destroying forests in the name of economic development: in a nation whose president is co-chairperson of the eminent personalities nominated by the UN Secretary General to oversee the implementation of the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) global initiative.

Finally,  Almighty God, please stop our current leaders from going ahead with the abomination that the plan to allow Chinese mining companies to mine the Atewa Range's rather poor quality bauxite deposits represents. Let them see the wisdom in turning the Atewa Forest Reserve (and the heavily-wooded off-reserve slopes bordering it)  into a national park instead. Protect Mother Ghana from those who know the price of everything under the African sun - but neither see the value locked  in our forests: nor know how to unlock same without destroying ever-bountiful Mother Nature. Amen.

WHAT IS VERIDIUM?

The Veridium Ecosystem, built on the STELLAR Blockchain, is a collaborative initiative between a coalition of industry leaders including EcoSmart Labs, Brian Kelly Capital Management, IDEAcarbon, Everland and CBL Markets, with IBM providing the token architecture and token interface with its various industry specific Hyperledger Fabric blockchain platforms.

WHAT PROBLEM DOES VERIDIUM SOLVE?

The world needs viable, market‐ready solutions to meet the challenges of climate change and other social & environmental issues such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, and the need to meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Simultaneously, the world’s largest corporations face enormous environmental liabilities that could lead to billions of dollars in write‐downs of stranded‐assets resulting in significant losses to shareholder value.

Simply by using VERDE, the underlying environmental impacts (such as the carbon footprint of products) are automatically mitigated and quantifiable positive social impacts are created.
HOW WILL VERIDIUM BE APPLIED?
ENTERPRISE APPLICATIONS OF VERDE

Under the EcoSmart-Protocols™, each VERDE is embedded with a “carbon charge”, giving it an “Emissions Offset Capacity (EOC).

Each VERDE can be thought of as a battery, with all aggregated digital offset tokens functioning as a bank of batteries. The bank discharges a portion of its carbon capacity (EOC) as each VERDE is used in an EcoSmart-Trade™.

Veridium is working with IBM and Stellar blockchain to integrate VERDE into an Oil & Gas Trading Platform, built on Hyper-Ledger Fabric. Once integrated, commodities exchanged on this platform will be automatically mitigated using the EcoSmart-Protocols™.
CONSUMER APPLICATION OF VERDE

Using the EcoSmart-Protocols™, Veridium is building a consumer offset integration app called VERDEPAY™, empowering consumers to change the world by converting their purchases into positive social & environmental impacts – with no extra effort and minimal cost.

The alpha version of the VERDEPAY™ app was built at the AngelHack Hackathon in Silicon Valley April 28th, 2018, with the Beta version anticipated to be released in June or July 2018.

Veridium has also developed the protocols to offer a unique rewards debit/credit card that will allow consumers to make EcoSmart‐ Purchases™ . The VERDEPAY™ debit/credit Rewards card will use the EcoSmart‐Protocols™ to automatically offset the environmental footprint of everything purchased on the card. Additionally, through its Rewards program, cardholders will receive VERDE as a “Cash Back” on every transaction.
