The Ghanaian Nation-State Must Clip The Wings Of The Homeland Study Group With Unprecedented Ruthlessness

The Republic of Ghana is a unitary state. It has been a unitary state since March 7, 1957. And, without  a shadow of doubt, so will it remain, till the very end of time. Full stop. Let every public official, as well as every elected member of our political class serving the president of Ghana, as an appointee in the current administration, and all other subsequent governments,   be absolutely clear about that. Always.

Furthermore, not even an inch of the landmass that makes up the sovereign territory of the Republic of Ghana, can be, or will ever be ceded, to anyone. Period. That is a non-negotiable fact-on-the-ground, for which all the coercive powers of the Leviathan that is the Republic of Ghana - which has the power of life and death over all who reside within its borders - will always be deployed, so as to ensure that its sovereign territory remains inviolable.  And so will it be till the very end of time.

The elections of 1951, 1954 and 1956, were fought to decide the exact nature of the independent nation that would emerge after the sly, cunning and super-rutless British occupiers of our motherland, had been forced to finally hand back our country to us, the gentle and civilised African people, whose land, blessed  with rich and abundant  natural resources,  they had pillaged for decades.

In the decisive elections of 1951, 1954, and 1956, the then descendants  of the ruling elites of the pre-colonial tribal entities, were determined to make the new nation-state emerging after independence,  a federation of independent tribal states, with Chiefs firmly  in the driving seats of all those autonomous   tribal entities, which  their privileged forebears had ruled,  before the coming of the first Europeans to our shores.

In the end, despite the chicanery of the Chiefs and their blood relatives who were their political allies leading the political parties opposed to Kwame Nkrumah, it was Nkrumah's vision of a united and modern African society,  in which anyone -  regardless of social background - could rise to the top of society by their own efforts, which appealed to  the masses.

That is why the masses ignored the many threats and strictures of the Chiefs and J. B. Dankwah and Co, and voted overwhelmingly for Nkrumah's Convention People's Party (CPP), in all those three crucial  elections of 1951, 1954 and 1956, because Nkrumah's  message of mass empowerment in a new meritocratic-society,  resonated with them.

There is no going back to the dreadful era of tribalism-driven-politics ever again.  President Akufo-Addo must ensure that the idiotic and  tribalistic Homeland Study Group's members  who want to destabilise Ghana, with their Western Togoland secession-nonsense-on-stilts, are dealt with ruthlessly by the security agencies. They are a clear and present danger to our democracy. They could easily morphe into tomorrow's  terrorists  and brigands-with-a-political-agenda, committing heinous crimes across Ghana, in the name of separatism.

New laws safeguarding our unitary Republic  from such threats (similar to the anti-terrorism legislation enacted by the US and the UK to protect their societies from terrorists), must be swiftly drafted, and passed under certificates of urgency by Parliament, to enable the security agencies and justice system  deal effectively,  with those arrogant and power-hungry fools,  trying to destabilise our united and peaceful democratic-society. They must not be allowed to  grow wings. Nothing can justify the abomination they  propose. Their wings must be clipped now with unprecedented ruthlessness. Haaba.
