Calling all techies ☎️
This is a very special edition of the writing prompts newsletter because our very own Shaelin Bishop, YouTuber extraordinaire, is hosting a takeover!
Every week on our Reedsy YouTube channel, Shaelin covers a huge variety of writing and publishing subjects, from character development to self-publishing tips. To celebrate Shaelin's takeover, we're sending you eight prompts instead of the usual five. The theme? Technology.
We'll let Shaelin take it from here.
Here are the prompts:
1 Write a story about the day everyone woke up and the internet no longer existed.
2 Write a story about someone looking up directions on Google Maps Streetview. They see a person who looks exactly like them in a place they’ve never been to.
3 Write a story about an addiction group for social media addicts.
4 Write a story about a person who has just been followed on social media by their idol.
5 Write a story where people have a virtual conscience implanted in their mind, and that provides the person with advice when called upon.
6 Write a story about a relationship between two people who have never met in-person and only communicate online.
7 Write a story about a world where every family has an assistant robot. Write it from the perspective of the robot.
8 Write a story about a world where people upload their daily memories to a chip.
Short Story Contest — $50 Cash Reward
Reedsy challenges you to create a short story based on one of our prompts. Winners will be featured on our Medium Blog and receive $50 cash! In order to have your story considered, it is important you follow the rules below. As the contest grows, stories that do not adhere to the instructions may not be considered. Thank you!
Congratulations to the latest winner, Chumi Schwartz! Their short story, "Lion Wrestler," is based on the following prompt: Write a story based on the metaphor: "Beauty is a fading flower." ✨
To submit your own story:
● Respond to this newsletter with your story as a Word doc or PDF attachment (please don't simply include it in the body of the email itself).
● Make sure you specify which prompt your story is based on, and that your story has a title.
● The length should be 1,000-3,000 words.
● The deadline to submit a short story based on any of the above prompts is end of July 12th, 11:59pm EST.
Looking forward to reading your stories!
