Open Letter To The CEO Of The Minerals Commission Of Ghana

Dear Mr. Kweku Addae Antwi-Boasiako,

I shall go straight to the point: All the gold concessions granted to a number of small-scale gold miners, on our privately-owned 14-square mile freehold rainforest property in the Akyem Juaso section,  of the Atewa Range, must be revoked immediately.

That those unlawfully awarded, and fraudulently acquired gold concessions, came into existence at all - on what is a private freehold rainforest property our late grandfather,  P. E. Thompson Esq., purchased (with the concurrence of Nana Ofori Atta 1), in 1921 and 1926 -  illustrates perfectly, just how corrupt  the regulatory processes for the granting of gold concessions, became, during the Mahama-era.

If officials of all the gold mining sector's regulatory bodies, including the Minerals Commission, had visited our property before the granting of those Kweku-Ananse-concessions, the obvious negative  environmental impact on what is heavily-wooded land that is part of an area of the Atewa Range designated a Globally Significant Biodiversity Area  (GSBA), would have been immediately apparent to them, and, as true professionals guided solely by ethical conduct, would never have approved the granting of those gold concessions on our private freehold rainforest property. Ever.

Sir, yet, as we speak, Hagnela Mining Company, a crooked and rogue-gold-miner, whose owner's  stock in trade is to bribe officialdom to overlook his many  crimes against humanity,  committed on our private property, is trespassing on our land yet again - and is boldly mining gold without a valid license. How can that be, in the era of President Akufo-Addo, who appointed  you to your present position, to ensure that such illegalities don't happen anywhere in the Republic of Ghana that he leads?

Please, send a team of honest Minerals Commission  officials, who cannot be bribed by anyone, to use a drone to enable them  inspect the full extent of the  damage caused by Hagnela Mining on our land. This egregious infraction of  the rules and regulations under the Minerals & Mining (Amendment) Act, 2015, by Hagnela Mining Company must be halted once and for all. And Hagnela Mining must be compelled to foot the bill for the restoration of our rainforest property, by an independent company with the needed expertise. Above all,  the promoters of Hagnela Mining Company, and their assigns, must all be prosecuted and jailed, for their very serious crimes  on our land.

Furtheremore,  please ask the Inspector General of Police, to order the  Ghana Police Service's investigative team at room 6,  in the headquarters building of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), which investigated Hagnela Mining Company's illegal gold mining operations on our property,  to give you a copy of their Mahama-era report on the matter, to enable you revoke all the gold concessions on land that we actually intend to transform into an ecotourism destination,  with the assistance of the rural-development-focused NGO, SYTO Ghana.

Thanks.

Yours in the service of Mother Ghana,

Kofi.
