Short Note To Senyo Hosni

Dear Mr. Hosni,

This old fool, Kofi Thompson, assumes that you are aware that at some point in the not to distant future, the sale of electric  vehicles will outstrip that of vehicles with internal combustion engines. Since the non-thinkers at the University of Ghana, Legon, won't help you do so, one hopes that you have thought through that scenario, on your own. You are a smart-thinker and very clever fuel trader, after all

Mr. Hosni,  some Ghanaians accuse you of growing super-rich, overseeing a downstream sector of our national economy's oil industry, once upon a time,  which made sector-players   trillions of cedis importing sub-standard fuels into Ghana. Some of us fought to have European standards imposed here to protect motorists. Thank God we succeeded in our goal.

It was a trade that ruthless companies with very shady pasts, such as Trafigura, made a killing from -  and justified by saying it met market specifications: even though players in the sector knew perfectly well that the imported fuel sold on the forecourts of Ghana's petrol filling stations was destroying vehicle engines across the nation. That was naughty. Very.

You must make amends to Mother Ghana for that crime against humanity, Mr.  Hosni. How, you might wonder? Simple. To begin with, donate some money to help the University of Ghana, to become a  truly world-class tertiary institution, which we can all be proud of.

Secondly, do look up: www.ecocoboard.net. Use some of the money you made importing substandard fuels into Ghana, to help commercialise the production of ecocoboards in Ghana. It will create jobs galore for our younger generations, and  a sustainable value-chain that will produce a new class of green entrepreneurs,   for Mother Ghana, who will turn our national economy into an export-driven one - and help us get to the Ghana beyond aid that we all want to see coming into being quickly. Good luck, great thinker. Genius. Sarjewah.

Yours in the service of Mother Ghana,

Kofi.
