Do Those Affected By The Atomic Road Junction Gas Explosion And Fire Not Need PTSD Counseling?

There is no question that many of those who were caught up in the Atomic Road junction gas explosion and fire  will need post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) counseling.

After the gas explosion and  catastrophic fire in the area around the gas and petrol filling stations off the Accra-Aburi road, at Atomic Road junction, became widely reported by the Ghanaian media, I decided to listen to Oman FM.

One of their morning show's presenters, a young lady whose name I am unable to recollect, broke down whiles recounting to her colleagues how she thought the end of the world had come whiles fleeing the raging fire that seemed to be following her everywhere she went.

She went on further to tell her colleagues about some of the changes she had noticed in herself after that terrifying experience  - such as being afraid of switching on the light bulbs in her home.

Clearly, that young lady is suffering from PTSD and needs psychological counseling - as do many of those who might also be similarly affected by what must have been a horrific ordeal by all accounts.

To ensure their well-being, mentally, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO),  and the professional umbrella body for psychologists in Ghana, must do everything possible to enable those who experienced  that  hellish night's apocalyptic events to get  PTSD counseling.
