Will A More Positive Approach To Politics Help The NDC Repair Its Badly Damaged Brand?

According to a Ghanaweb.com general news webpage story, Hon. Alhaji A.B.A. Fusieni - who is the member of Parliament for the Sagnarigu constituency - is reported to have stated that President Akufo-Addo "has failed Ghanaians".

If it is true that he actually said that, then it is a most unfortunate thing for a leading politician whose party is now in the political wilderness to say of a president elected to a 4-year tenure, who has only just embarked on his second year in office as it happens.

Having lost the power it toiled so hard to win in the December 2012 elections, but ended up toying with in such egregious fashion - because of the obtuseness of genuises such as the too-clever-by-half Stan Dogbes - one hopes that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will eschew negative politics of the bury-your-head-deeply-in-sand variety, now that it faces a formidable president in the Nkrumah-mould.

The question is: When he had the opportunity to improve the lives of ordinary people in the Northern Region, where he served as deputy regional minister, what exactly did Hon A. B. A.Fusieni do for ordinary Ghanaians? A party bereft  of original thinking will find it pretty difficult to defeat the present regime  in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Alas, some of us have rather long memories, unfortunately for the A. B. A. Fusienis of our nation's political world. It so happens that  once upon a time, at my own expense, I sent him a text message alerting him to the opportunities that collaborating with the U.S. social enterprise, the Samma Group, would open up for the Northern Region's unemployed younger generations.

That genius did not even have the decency to reply - as was the case for many of "...those greedy incompetents into whose reckless hands our homeland Ghana fell into..." to quote a young acquaintance of mine whose business was ruined by the dumsor power crisis.

Perhaps if Hon. A. B. A. Fusieni had taken steps to establish a relationship with Leila Jana's reputable social enterprises - SamaSource and LXMI - it would have served as a model for empowering Ghana's base-of-the-pyramid demographic nationwide, and the hard-of-hearing regime he was such a prominent member of, would not have been turfed out of power by a mostly fed-up populace - tired of never ending propaganda and endless corruption. Pity.

It is still not too late for Hon. A. B. A. Fusieni and his party to embrace such base-of-the-pyramid empowering ideas. And as an old wag I know once said of him: "Kofi, that man is too fond of hearing his own voice. Will he shut up for once? Haaba." Food for thought for Hon. Alhaji A. B. A. Fusieni perhaps? Hmm. Oman Ghana, eyeasem o. Asem kesie ebeba debi ankasa!

Finally, the new politics is about leading-edge ideas that positively impact the living standards and quality of life of ordinary people. If the NDC wants to return to power again, it must rid itself of the many clueless T-Rexes  in its midst and replace them with dynamic young people eager to empower Ghana's base-of-the-pyramid demographic the way Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings' 31st December Women's Movement used to do in its heydays. The NDC definitely needs a more positive approach to politics - for that is the only way it can rebuild its badly damaged brand.
