Farewell To K. B. Asante And A Prayer For Bawumia's Speedy Recovery

After a long innings, the inimitable Mr. K. B. Asante has finally left the crease, aged 93. He will doubtless be missed by many - mainly because he was one of the few remaining high-powered Ghanaians with a direct link to the Nkrumah era. May his soul rest in peace. Brilliant man.

And one must also pray that Vice President Alhaji Mahammudu Bawumia recovers quickly from whatever it is that ails him. Alas, even the most powerful of men are not immune to  human frailties. The question there is: Why do so many of our nation's leaders  feel compelled to seek medical attention overseas?

It is something that has always been hard to fathom for me: knowing at first hand that there are world-class medical doctors in Ghana - ditto a growing number of very good private hospitals in our nation's major cities. So why risk an encounter with  closet-racist medical professionals abroad that could prematurely  end your life - when you could have the best possible healthcare in Ghana? Odd,  that. Still, let us pray for Bawumia's speedy recovery.
