Without Gender Parity Can Ghana Be Transformed Into A Prosperous Society?

Will Ghana ever fulfil her destiny, if as a people, we do not take the steps needed to ensure gender parity in Ghanaian society? Women are a force for good in communities wherever in Ghana one goes. That is a fact.

Economically, they form the micro-entrepreneurial backbone of our national economy's private-sector. And they hold and bind families together - often forced by male irresponsibility to nurture children from their unions with their offsprings fathers' alone as single parents.

To inspire our much-talented younger generation of females in present day Ghana, today, we are posting culled content from the online version of  'The Female Quotient'.

Our hope, in so doing, is that young women in university campuses across Ghana, and in our nation's corporate world, will connect and work together to seek change that will bring about gender parity in Ghana - without which our beloved country cannot be successfully transformed into a prosperous society.

We Believe…

diversity is good for business.

Our story

We went from a moment to a movement. The Girls’ Lounge was born after founder Shelley Zalis experienced the power of the pack in 2013. Zalis invited some girlfriends to join her at the male-dominated Consumer Electronics Show, and told them to invite their friends.

About 50 women ended up walking the floor together. It was a “heartbeat moment” where the minority felt like the majority.

What started as an informal female gathering has turned into a movement that emphasizes collaboration and mentorship to activate real change.

In addition to the Girls’ Lounge, The Female Quotient also offers research and strategy solutions for forward-thinking corporations to give companies and leaders the tools they need to design the culture they want.

Our mission is to advance gender equality in the workplace. When you put women in any equation, the equation gets better.

60%

of woman believe that stereotypes personally impact their career, their life, or both.

30%

The more likely a woman is than a man  to receive feedback that they are “bossy” , “to aggressive” or “intimidating”

25%

of woman feel their gender hes hindered their progress

Today, through The Female Quotient, Zalis is advancing gender equality across many industries and career levels with the Girls’ Lounge, pop-up experiences at conferences across the globe, such as The World Economic Forum, Cannes Lions and the Consumer Electronics Show, as well as within companies. She is also leading initiatives within corporations by activating solutions for change with The Female Quotient’s Equality Bootcamps.

Zalis authors a Forbes column that provides inspiration and advice for women in the “messy middle,” middle management, who are looking to rise up into leadership positions. She is co-founder of #SeeHer, a movement led by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) to increase the percentage of accurate portrayals of women and girls in advertising and media.

A firm believer in giving back with generosity, her legacy is to tap into the power of collaboration to transform workplace culture so that all people feel like they belong, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation.
