It is most unfortunate that Hon. Kennedy Adjapong does not seem to understand that a member of Parliament in a democracy should always be circumspect when speaking publicly - particularly when making allegations that if false could harm the reputations of hardworking law-abiding citizens.
The question is: Why does Hon. Kennedy Adjapong not realise that many fair-minded and indepedent-minded Ghanaians are beginning to feel that so obsessed is he with sending Mr. Ibrahim Mahama to jail willy nilly - having publicly vowed to commit suicide if he fails in that effort - that he has now thrown caution to the wind: and will grasp at every feeble straw that has a whiff of Ibrahim Mahama about it. Ebeeii.
What is even worse is that journalists and media houses that ought to know better, are allowing their platforms to serve as echo-chambers for Kennedy Adjapong's toxic vituperations. What stopped those who stooped to such depths in reporting his latest baseless allegations - to engage in egregious yellow journalism - from cross-checking the facts of the matter regarding the regular servicing overseas of vehicles belonging to Ibrahim Mahama and their return to the country afterwards, from the relevant state bodies and from Swissport Ghana Limited?
Kennedy Adjapong is a mass of contradictions. He condemns Ibrahim Mahama for amassing government contracts under the previous administration headed by his brother President John Mahama - yet forever complains bitterly about not being given contracts by the present government of President Akufo-Addo. Incredible.
If he truly believes the private-sector should drive growth in our national economy, instead of being so consumed by envy of Ibrahim Mahama's success, why does he not do something creative and stellar - such as putting together a consortium to build the world's biggest offshore wind-energy farm to generate 10,000MW of renewable power with battery storage? That is what will help Mother Ghana. Does he not realise the untold harm he is doing to Ghana's image as a welcoming place for investment in Africa in his selfish and senseless crusade against Ibrahim Mahama?
The Hon. Kennedy Adjapongs in our midst and their lackeys in the Ghanaian media world ought to understand clearly that under our system, even those suspected of committing serious crimes - including murder - are presumed innocent, until they are proven guilty after standing trial and being prosecuted in the law courts.
If they have rock-solid evidence that can secure Ibrahim Mahama's conviction in court after being charged following investigations into those allegations, let them make it public, and after independent checks confirm the facts (by the more responsible sections of the media), we shall all call for Ibrahim's prosecution. Until that day, the character assasination of Ibrahim Mahama using trial-by-media-tactics must cease forthwith. It is damaging Ghana's reputation as a business-friendly African environment no end. Enough is enough. Haaba.
