With an increasing number of Tesla vehicles hitting the road, the need for quick charging locations in close proximity is becoming necessary. Tesla Inc. (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk has announced plans to build around 10,000 Supercharger stations around the globe by the end of 2019 to support the necessary ecosystem required for his company's electric vehicles (EV). With the company recently confirming the production of its 300,000th vehicle, there are now 212,821 Model S vehicles, 71,927 Model X vehicles, and 1,770 Model 3 vehicles running on the road. (See also, Model 3 Production at 500 Cars/Day: Musk Email.)
Tesla Plans for Supercharger Stations

Superchargers offer a dedicated charging mechanism which is known to rapidly deliver the required power to the battery, and the delivery rate starts falling as the battery fills to its capacity. The new-age battery-powered EVs need quick charging points that are accessible around the globe.

During the first five months of the year, the company has started 121 new Supercharger stations. Across the globe, there are 1,229 Supercharger stations at present. These stations collectively have 9,623 Superchargers, each of which is capable of charging an electric vehicle in 30 minutes to around 80 percent capacity. Tesla now plans to increase the number by more than eight-fold.

Musk also tweeted a link to the global map showing the Supercharger stations, including the ones expected to come up soon. Most of the existing Supercharger stations on the North American continent are located in the U.S. with some locations in Canada and Mexico. In Europe, the bulk of Tesla stations is concentrated in western Europe, and the company also has a presence in Israel, the UAE and Jordan in the Middle-East. In Asia, the eastern side of China accounts for a maximum number of Supercharger stations, while Taiwan, South Korea and Japan are home to the rest.

The company is installing Superchargers in urban areas where city dwellers and out of town visitors can easily charge, reports Financial Express. The stations are situated around convenient locations such as local stores, downtown districts and shopping malls.

Tesla offers 400 kWh of free Supercharger credit to Model S and Model X owners each year, which is sufficient to drive around 1,000 miles (or 1,600 kilometers). (See also, Tesla Reveals Pricing For Supercharger Network.)
