It Is Time Ghanaian Politicians Understood That The Consciences Of Some Government Critics Can Never Be Bought

Although one is an optimist, one has to acknowledge that there are many disheartening things about our byzantine system. Indeed, one of the most disheartening things about our homeland Ghana, is that so many politicians seem to think that the consciences of most Ghanaians  can be bought, simply by the giving out of high-level appointments in the public-sector. Hmmmm, Oman Ghana eyeasem o.

Yet, there are many Ghanaians  who genuinely love their country passionately, and, despite having to struggle to survive like so many ordinary people do daily,  still make their widows' mite contributions to the nation-building task, regardless,   by making constructive criticisms of the actions and inactions of governments of the day - and  constantly suggesting better alternatives to help move their nation forward for the common good.

Do the Ace Ankomahs, Sidney Casely-Hayfords et al, who formed the pressure group, OccupyGhana, not use their own resources from time to time, to help make their nation a better governed African nation-state? As a matter of fact, the list of such patriotic individuals is long and extensive.  Thank goodness.

Even an old fool like me, also makes his widow's mite contributions, by writing articles - and has done so for nearly two decades now. In all that time, my conscience has never been for sale, and, having chosen to be a loner and semi-recluse (who is also unclubable socially), to maintain my independence, certainly don't want any public-sector appointment.

Our vampire-élites must stop thinking that every government critic can be bought. It is an  insult. Most independent-minded and discerning Ghanaians who publicly criticise Ghana's leaders, do so only because they want their country to be a better place for all its citizens  - and neither want nor expect any reward for that. Their consciences are most certainly not for sale. At any price. Full stop. Haaba.
