Scotland Yard are investigating a “white powder” sent in a letter addressed to Prince Harry and his fiancee Meghan Markle at Kensington Palace.

Police say the substance prompted an anthrax scare but was tested and confirmed to be “non-suspicious”, says Sky News.

The Sun says a racist message was also included.

The package was intercepted on 12 February before reaching the couple, who are understood to have been informed, according to the London Evening Standard.

Security around them has already been increased ahead of their 19 May wedding in St George’s Chapel, at Windsor Castle, The Daily Telegraph reports.

A letter containing non-harmful white powder was also reportedly sent to Home Secretary Amber Rudd the following day. Police are believed to be examining possible links, says The Sun. There have been no arrests.

Anthrax can be weaponised in powder form and is potentially deadly, The Guardian reports, adding that there have been “a number of scares where harmless white powder has been sent to prominent people”, perhaps as a hoax or prank.
